Ramona Flowers is a girl from New York who has seven evil ex’s. Shortly after moving to Canada, she meets Scott Pilgrim and he falls in love with her. He then has to battle Ramona’s seven evil ex’s to gain her trust and ultimately gain her love.
How I Made It
When the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World movie started coming out, my husband introduced me to the comic. I fell in love with Ramona Flowers and really wanted to design the outfit she wears on the cover of volume five. I didn’t tell my husband about this, since I wanted to surprise him with it as a thank you for introducing me to the comic!
The entire outfit is a closet cosplay. I altered the shirt to be more formfitting and include thumbholes. I also altered the jacket, sewing together the ten straps that are seen on the sleeves. I handmade the necklace from scrap leather string, and her star bag from scratch. A little makeup and a super cute blue wig that I cut to be angled to the front, and Ramona was completed!
I wore this to The New England Institute of Art’s Halloween Contest and although I didn’t win any prizes, many students recognized the costume and I even had a stranger on the subway tell me that he liked my Ramona costume. That’s a huge win in my book!
